The Torchbearer Story

Torchbearer Sauces began with a moment of curiosity and a lifelong love of spicy food. Owner Vid Lynch first discovered his fascination with extreme heat in high school during a farewell party for a friend who was moving away. While enjoying BBQ chicken, the friend began pouring a wildly hot extract-based sauce all over his plate. Intrigued, Vid joined in, and from that moment forward he was hooked on the thrill of bold heat.

Years later, Vid and his friend Ben—who would eventually become his business partner—each ended up with a large harvest of habanero peppers and no clear idea how to use them. On September 21, 2004, the two decided to bottle their peppers with carrots, mandarin oranges, and onions as a way to preserve the harvest. What began as a practical experiment turned into something remarkable: a flavorful sauce that would become the company’s first creation, Super Fancy Sultry #7.

Friends and family quickly fell in love with the sauce, encouraging the pair to take the next step and start selling their creations. The name Torchbearer Sauces was already waiting in the wings, borrowed from Vid’s photography and video production company. The name captured the spirit of their mission perfectly—carrying the torch for bold ingredients, fearless heat, and handcrafted flavor.
